Family Reunion Location

A Family Reunion Location
by Anita Wolff

With families spread all over the continent and abroad, getting everyone together is a very special occasion. When planning a family reunion, a logical question is, where to hold it? You want a place that's like home, only bigger. . . a place where you can all be together when you want, yet have your own room for privacy. . . . a place where you can all gather in a big living room, not the busy lobby of a hotel. . . . a place where it feels like you've gone "over the river and through the woods" to Grandma's house. What you need is a chalet.

Chalets designed for large groups have been around for decades, but they're a hidden treasure scattered throughout the United States. In keep with their alpine ancestry, you'll find chalets with mountains. Some of the places you can find chalets are: Great Smoky Mountains, Blue Ridge Mountains, ski areas in Utah, Washington, and Vermont.

For example, Middlecreek Valley chalets in Pigeon Forge, TN offer accommodations ranging from very private two-person chalets to multi-level chalets that can be configured through the use of internal and external connecting stairways and hallways to create a joined unit of 17 bedrooms with 19 baths - with the use of sleeper sofas in the living areas, the chalet can hold up to 64 people! Each chalet configuration includes a kitchen, dining room, and living room with the bedrooms/bathrooms suites off the common living areas. Larger configuration can include multiple kitchens, dining areas, and living rooms. Some even include hot tubs and fireplaces. And everything you need is included in the chalet: linens, cooking utensils, plates, glasses, silverware. . . . Just pack your bags, load up on groceries (if you want to do your own cooking), and head for the Great Smoky Mountains.

Another plus for chalets are their location. They are generally located away from the hustle and bustle of cities so you can enjoy the natural surroundings. Though only minutes from Dollywood and the other attractions of Pigeon Forge, the Middlecreek Valley chalets are nestled in trees surrounded with the ruggedness of the Smoky Mountains. Instead of highway traffic, you'll start your day with a cup of coffee sitting in a rocker on the porch, enjoying the morning air and majestic view while you gently rock yourself to the music of the birds and forest creatures.
